An opening tribute from Lady Acher, Editor of the Cobham Conservation & Heritage Trust
We were delighted to see that Lady Acher, Editor of the Cobham Conservation & Heritage Trust, was kind enough to give Stoneleighs a mention in May issue of the Trust's newsletter.
A Family Affair
Recently the clock has turned back in the High Street as we welcome our new Butcher, Leigh Scantlin, whose grandparents Harold and Margaret Scantlin lived at Stoneleigh's, Downside Common Lane, Downside, and after whose former home the shop is named.
Leigh recalls staying with his grandparents as a young boy in the 1980's and visits to Humphrey's the butchers in the High Street, with Gwen the cashier greeting the customers, which made a great impression on the young Leigh; hence his desire to replicate the old traditional butchers' trade.
Although the pace of life may have changed since then, Stoneleigh's has old world charm with Leigh's wife Shelley managing the accounts and his nephew Ben King learning the traditional skills as well as offering superb service and meat.
Good luck Leigh and we wish you every success - Editor
